- The Sacramento Kings (20-36) look to bounce back after Friday’s loss to the San Antonio Spurs. This afternoon they draw the Portland Trail Blazers (38-19) who have won two straight and currently hold the fourth spot in the Western Conference heading towards the playoffs.
- DeMarcus Cousins is out again with a left ankle sprain and left hip contusion. The Kings starting center has missed two straight games due to the injury, but he took the floor to get some work in during pregame. He is listed as day-to-day. Darren Collison remains out with a core muscle injury. He is scheduled to get examined tomorrow in Philadelphia and is likely to undergo surgery on the injury on Tuesday.
- Cousins has taken a beating over the season and it’s a trend that will likely continue as he becomes more and more proficient as a scorer. Coach George Karl had an interesting perspective on the volume of fouls that Cousins has accumulated throughout the season. “I don’t want to overreact, I mean, he’s leading the NBA in free throw shooting, we’re leading the league in free throw shooting and if we complain about that too much, it doesn’t seem to be good karma,” Karl said.
- Terry Stotts got his start in coaching as an assistant for George Karl in Seattle in 1992. “I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for him first of all,” Stotts said. “Being in the NBA and him hiring me has made all the difference for me.”
- Before finishing up his media session, Karl spoke on the death of former NBA big man Anthony Mason who passed away yesterday after a long illness. “It’s a hard one for me man, too many people in my life are dying, Jerome Kersey played for me in Seattle, it’s a tough one. Anthony was a great competitor. Angry, smart, mean. I like him because he was a playmaking big. He’s a guy you could run your offense through. And defensively, he wasn’t afraid of any matchup.”
