- The Sacramento Kings (23-45) look to make it two in a row when they face off with the Washington Wizards (40-29) this afternoon at Sleep Train Arena. Sacramento is coming off a 101-91 win over the Charlotte Hornets on Friday, which snapped a four-game losing streak. Washington fell to the Clippers on Friday by a final of 113-99, but still hold the fifth spot in the Eastern Conference playoff race.
- DeMarcus Cousins is back after missing the previous two games with a right calf strain. “He’s going to play,” Karl said. “I’m sure whatever minutes I give him, he’ll want more.”
- For the second straight game Rudy Gay will start at the power forward position for coach Karl. The veteran wing will have his hands full in the post with interior scoring big man Nene. With Gay at the four, Omri Casspi will get the start at the three.
- Karl coached Nene with the Denver Nuggets and spoke on his former pupil during pregame. “I think Nene is a spectacular, simple, solid basketball player,” Karl said. “He just plays the game the right way. A big man that plays the game the right way that can pass the ball, can defend, can be a great rebounder. I think the foundation of their team is their big guys.”
- Darren Collison was out on the floor stretching and doing some light work before the game. The 27-year-old guard is expected to miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery on a core muscle earlier this month.
