Live Game blog, ASU at Oregon, first half

Brent Mushmouth on the play-by-play with Herbie. Ducks break up a first down pass over the middle.

Over/under on 6-8 references?

Anthony Gildon with a breakup on second down.

3rd and 10  Terrance Mitchell stops a crossing pattern short of the first down with a sure tackle, 3 and out.

And Barner coughs up a fumble on the second offensive play.

Stupid penalty on Stuckey. Took two full steps into the quarterback, cheap first down.

Osweiler with the touchdown throw on third and eight. Ducks following the perfect script so far to lose at home. Fumble, dumb penalty, no pressure on third and eight.

Defense strong against the run so far, stuffs two by Marshall.

A second three and out for the Oregon defense. Good tackling.

Great return by Harris. Good block on the gunner to spring him.

Ducks need to drive and get some tempo on offense. People who were clamoring for Darron Thomas to keep have gotten their wish. The running backs are more explosive.

Burfict with his first dumb penalty, and Paulson with his first catch.

The Black Momba takes a great pitch from Darron Thomas for the score. Tied 7-7. Maldonado cooly boots the point through despite pressure.

Great answer by the Ducks, with Cliff Harris providing the spark.

Osweiler in rhythm and ASU strikes for two first downs, then three. Killing them with underneath stuff. Osweiler never hurried, then a bubble screen for 8.

Mike Willie beats Cliff Harris for a touchdown on 2nd and 7. 14-7, ASU

Thomas hits Paulson for a first down, then Barner breaks a tackle and scores, but called back for a crackback penalty on Tuinei.

Neither DT or KB can be said to be “stepping up” so far in this game. Barner has 7 carries for 14 yards.

On 3rd and 12, Thomas misses Tuinei, with confusion on the route. Fake punt fails, gives Arizona a short field.

A sack by Bo Lokombo, who has been a spark all year.

Again, the Ducks need an answer and some offensive rhythm, taking over after a Harris fair catch at their own 15.

Ducks get bailed out by a third down roughing the passer penalty in the end zone, and march for a score passing, great catch by Huff, then a great scramble by Thomas on a touchdown to Tuinei.

Fourth basketball reference regarding Osweiler, who continues to kill the Ducks dinking and dunking.

Ducks hold on an errant third down pass, and Cliff Harris wisely lets the punt go into the end zone. 14-14, Ducks with the ball.

Burfict with his second personal foul.  He’s Oregon’s chief weapon in the ground game.

And Darron Thomas throws a miserable ball, overthrowing an open receiver in the flat with a balloon directly to the ASU defender, intercepted deep in Oregon territory. Ducks’ defense respond by breaking up three pass plays one-on-one, and ASU settles for a field goal, lead 17-14.

Ducks stall, punt, and ASU drives to their 33, then a running play by Marshall gets them out to the 50.

Harris intercepts the pass in the end zone and returns it past midfield. Ducks get great receptions by Hoffman, Huff, then David Paulson in the end zone. Paulson makes a great adjustment, good hands and good footwork, just a very pretty tight end play, nimble, clutch and smart. 21-17 Ducks at the half.
