Live game blog, Cal at Oregon, 2nd half

Ducks get the ball first in the second half, and they have to show some rhythm and resolve, improving execution by their quarterback and their offensive line. Josh Huff got going in the first half and that’s a good sign. They need a focused effort to change the direction of this game. A big play in the return game or a turnover by the defense would provide a spark, and they really need a spark.

The execution is disappointing after a week to get ready.

Does there have to be a damn holding penalty on every Oregon kick return?

James three on first down running inside.  Five on second down despite a high snap, carries agian on third down for a grind it out first down. Gets four running left, the fourth straight running play.  Barner inside right, 3rd and 3. Barner surges up the middle for a second first down. Ball out to the 38. A seventh straight running play gets just a yard. Finally a pass interference call against Cal. Ducks get the ball out to the Cal 45. Huff makes a bigtime catch on a high ball., a flutterball, Thomas hit as he throws.  James squeezes out a first down. Ball to the 33. DAT for a yard. James squirts up the middle for eight, then two, a first down. James with 196. Touchdown–Thomas threads one to the Momba, an emerging star with his second td.

Darron Thomas has left the fembot version of himself in the tunnel.

Maldonado pins the kick against the sideline, and the coverage team stuffs the returner at the five.

Pathetic. Sofele has a big gain bouncing another play outside, as the Ducks lose contain and the momentum.

A busted play loses a yard. 2nd and 11 at the 28. Big pass play to Marvin Jones working against Terrance Mitchell. Bears out to the 45, starting at their own five.

Jones goes low for a hook pass, and the Bears are marching down the field on the bend and break. Still hasn’t had a turnover in three games. 3rd and 6. Maynard throws another errant pass under pressure and the Bears punt.

Punt out of bounds on the 14, Anger containing Harris with good directional punting.

Come on you jackwagons. Another determined drive seizes control of this game.

Next time out I gotta pee.

James, De’Anthony Thomas and Barner the best 1-2-3 punch in college football as Barner strikes for a 68-yard run. It’s Oregon’s game now.

Replay shows Colt Lyerla with a big block downfield on Barner’s touchdown.

Troy Hill with a nice breakup on 2nd down. 3rd and 5. A stop buries the Bears. Eddie Pleasant talks the Cal receiver out of the ball with a well-timed blast. Bears punting, rugby style. Harris picks it up on the bounce for a few yards.

Thomas with his first keeper for 25 as the entire Cal defense follows James. A great decision by the non-fembot DT.

Ducks get the ball down to the 20 but the offensive line breaks down on two plays. 3rd and 12. Thomas to Thomas, touchdown, a twisting diving score for the new Maehl man/Oregon’s DeSean Jackson.

Three possessions, three scores. The best response to a lethargic first half I’ve seen in the last three years of Oregon football, maybe ever.

The defense holds again, and Darron Thomas hits De’Anthony Thomas over the middle for a 41-yard gain. The second half passing game is giving the Cal defense a case of the DTs.

James scampers around the left side for 18, goes out at the three. And now he’s down after he gets his arm twisted badly in a pile. Finishes with 30 carrries for 239 yards.

Arm is immobilized as James is carted off the field. Touchdown to Tuinei, 42-15. But a flag on the play, after the play on the kickoff. York with an extra shove after the touchdown.

After five games, James has 852 yards on the season.

Bears with a garbage time drive, another way the Duck defense gets those mediocre stats–meaningless yards in decided games.

Ducks defense shows resolve in holding Cal out of the end zone.

The Baby Rhino, Tra Carson, running hard in relief. Hard to bring down, great leg drive.

How do you like your effing blueprint now?

Twitter is not winning the day.

I’m not a doctor. I couldn’t even play one on TV. Could James injury be a dislocated or hyperextended elbow.

Bears continue to rack up meaningless yards, now up to to 448 yards of offense and just over 300 yards passing. Harris with a pass breakup in the end zone to wrap up the game.

De’Anthony Thomas had a beautiful game, and the Ducks play a great second half to win 43-15. But Duck fans thoughts have to be preoccupied with LaMichael James’ injury late in the third quarter.

Ducks rushed for 365 yards on a Cal team that had allowed just 79 per game in their first four contests.
