A Look Back At The Golden State Warriors Epic Winning Streak Part 1

stunned1

The streak is now over. We all knew it had to come to an end at some point, but part of us felt like the streak could have lasted forever. The Golden State Warriors and #DubNation hadn’t felt a loss in over a month, but after last night’s 105-98 to the Memphis Grizzlies, who hold the leagues second best record, the 33 days of euphoria and utter disbelief has ended.

The good news is that the Warriors still hold the leagues best record. Even better news that even if the Warriors only win half of their remaining games they are still a 50 win team. They have put themselves in a great position.

We are going to take a look back at the franchise record 16 game winning streak which had a lot of highs, and almost no lows.

11/13/2014: Warriors vs Brooklyn Nets

After two tough losses in a row, the Warriors bounced back in a game against the Nets, their first Eastern Conference opponent of the season. After turnovers plagued them in their two losses, the Warriors committed just 10 turnovers in the win that started the streak. No one in the world knew what was going to unfold. Not even the players or coaches. Klay Thompson led the way with 25 points.

11/15/2014: Warriors vs Charlotte Hornets

The Warriors unveiled their #SlateNight jerseys in this match up with the Hornets. The Warriors were firing on all cylinders, and cruised to an easy 112-87 win. Everyone on the team played at least 6 minutes in the blow out. Thompson was the scoring leader tallying 21 points.

11/16/2014: Warriors at Los Angeles Lakers

In the second night of a back-to-back, the Warriors made the quick trip from Oakland to Los Angeles to take on Kobe Bryant and the Lakers.  The Warriors carried their momentum from the night before in to another huge win. All starters scored in double digits for the Warriors including a team high 30 from Stephen Curry. Bryant dropped 44, but it was all for not as the Warriors cruised to the finish with a 136-115 win, their 3rd in a row.

11/21/2014: Warriors vs Utah Jazz

The Warriors found themselves back at home after a quick stop in LA. Another dominating win came this night as the Warriors ran up and down the court. Andre Iguodala had his best game statistically up to that point in the season dropping in 17 points. The Warriors continued to take care of the ball only turning it over 13 times.

11/23/2014: Warriors at Oklahoma City Thunder

This game marked the beginning of a five game roadtrip for the Warriors. They struggled in this game and it looked like their mini win streak was going to come to an end. Facing a thunder team without the likes of reigning MVP, Kevin Durant, and Russell Westbrook most expected the Warriors to see another easy win. This turned in to a grind out game with Marreese Speights playing the hero. The Warriors only shot 35% from the field but Speights came up huge dropping 28 points on 11/18 shooting, earning the Dubs their 5th straight win.

11/24/2014: Warriors at Miami Heat

The Warriors made a stop in South Beach to take on Chris Bosh and the Heat, without Dwayne Wade, nursing an injury. This game was very competitive throughout, but Curry took over down the stretch. He entered human torch mode as we are so familiar with, and ended the night with a season high 40 points. The score was not indicative of how close this game was throughout, as the Warriors took care of another game on the road, 114-97, their 6th win in a row.

11/26/2014:  Warriors at Orlando Magic

Curry continued his hot shooting from Miami right into the second night of a back-to-back against Orlando. After a nice start from the Warriors, the Magic made a couple runs to try and make things interesting. The Warriors kept their composure, and took care of business again. Curry ended with 28 points including 6-for-8 from downtown all in only 24 minutes.

11/28/2014: Warriors at Hornets

After a Thanksgiving break, the Warriors came out as if they were still feeling the after effects of dinner the night before. Curry was ice cold from the three making just 1 of his 9 shots from deep. With no team really taking control, Speights once again saved the day. His performance in the 4th quarter won the game as he finished with 27 points, including the first 16 points of the fourth quarter for the Warriors. They went on to win the game 106-101. Although it wasn’t pretty, they extended their win streak to 8 games. Now on to Detroit.

Stay tuned for Part 2 of the Warriors win streak!
