A Look Back At The Golden State Warriors Epic Win Streak Part 2

mail

This is a continuation of Part 1, highlighting the Warriors franchise record 16 game win streak.

11/30/2014: Warriors at Detroit Pistons

In a homecoming game of sorts for the Saginaw, Michigan native, Draymond Green, the Warriors played another game that, for the most part, was never in serious jeopardy. Green hit a then career high 5 three pointers, a led the scoring for Golden State with 20 points. The story of the game, however, came in the 3rd quarter when Curry seemed to tweak his ever-so-precious ankle. He left the game, but would return briefly in the 4th quarter. The Warriors went on to win the game 104-93, earning their 9th straight win, and perhaps beginning to capture the attention of the nation.

12/2/2014: Warriors vs Orlando Magic

After taking care of the Magic less than a week before, this game did not come as easy. The game went back and fourth for the majority but the play that everyone will remember from this one came in the final seconds of the game. With the Warriors down two, Curry pushed the ball up the floor after a Magic miss that might have sealed it. Electing to not call a time out, Steve Kerr let Curry do his thing. Curry made a move that got a Magic defender off balance. Curry pulled up from 28 feet and the rest is history. The Warriors won their 10th straight in another close one.

12/4/2014: Warriors vs New Orleans Pelicans

This game turned out to be a total team effort from the Warriors. They never had much trouble in this one, as they cruised to a fairly easy 112-85 victory. Anthony Davis did have himself a night tallying 30 points on 14-for-19 shooting, and 15 rebounds. He was their only true scoring threat that night as no other Pelicans player scored more than 12. Thompson was the high man for the Warriors with 23 points on 50% from the field. This 11th win in a row tied the franchise record for most consecutive wins.

12/6/2014: Warriors at Chicago Bulls

The Warriors headed back out on a short road trip making their first stop in Chicago. This night was dominated by none other than Draymond Green. He nailed three after three ending the night with a career high 7 made threes. Green also ended the night with a career high 31 points, and got people thinking about him being the possible newest #SplashBrothers family member. This was the 12th straight win for the Warriors which breaks a franchise record for most consecutive wins.

12/8/2014: Warriors at Minnesota Timberwolves

The first half of this game was a real struggle for the Warriors. It didn’t make things any easier when Andrew Bogut went down with a knee injury. He played just two minutes, but back up center Festus Ezeli filled in adequately. The Warriors turned on the jets in the second half and continued to pull away from the young T-Wolves squad, eventually winning 102-86.

12/10/2014: Warriors vs Houston Rockets

Both Bogut and Dwight Howard sat this game out with injuries. All signs pointed to the streak coming to an end on this night. It took most of the game for the Warriors to get the lead, but once they did they never looked back. James Harden finished with 34 points, but both splash brothers combined for 41. The Warriors extended their win streak to 14.

12/12/2014: Warriors at Dallas Mavericks

Still without Bogut, the Warriors had to find a way to take care of the leagues highest scoring team. The Warriors held the Mavericks, one of the best shooting teams in the league, to 40.4% shooting. Curry, Thompson, and Green combined for 74 of the teams 105. This win pushed the streak to 15.

12/14/2014: Warriors at Pelicans

This game needed overtime to decide an eventual winner. Once again, it looked like the Warriors would fall, but they fought through adversity, and came back from a substantial deficit. Without Bogut protecting the rim, the Warriors had to step up on defense down the stretch and they did just that.  The game headed in to the extra period, and Curry hit the first shot, and the Warriors never looked back. They went on to win 128-122, extending their win streak to a franchise record 16 games. This would be the last win on this epic string of wins, and it came in dramatic fashion.
