Taking a quick peek into the C's record books, Paul Pierce is pretty close to hitting some new milestones. And unless a lockout wipes out all of next year, he'll do it this upcoming season.
Here's a quick peek at what he's got coming up. Remember, these are Celtics records, not NBA records. All numbers Pierce needs are to move into said spot alone:
Points: Pierce needs 382 points to reach 2nd all time. Pierce is 3rd with 21,410. Larry Bird is 2nd with 21,791.
Games Played: Pierce needs to play 9 more games to reach 3rd all time. Pierce is 4th with 964 games played. Kevin McHale is 3rd with 971.
FG Made: Pierce needs 472 to reach 3rd all time. He's 4th with 7012. Robert Parish is 3rd with 7483. Pierce has hit for more than 472 FG's in all but two of his seasons in Boston (not counting his lockout shortened rookies season).
FG Attempted: Pierce needs 818 FG's to reach 3rd all time. He's 4th with 15,648. Bob Cousy is 3rd with 16,465. Aside from his rookie year, Pierce's lowest FGA total was 850, which came in 2006-07… when he only played 47 games due to injury.
Assists: Pierce needs 26 assists to reach 5th all time. He's 6th with 3661. Jo Jo White is 5th with 3686. (by the way, Rajon Rondo is already 9th in C's history with 2903).
Blocks: Pierce needs 35 blocked shots to reach 4th all time. He's 5th with 612. Kendrick perkins is 4th with 646. Pierce blocked 51 shots this past season, but has only reached 35 twice in the past four seasons. His career high was 86 blocks in 2001-02.
Personal Fouls: Pierce needs to commit 17 personal fouls to reach 4th all time. He's 5th with 2767. Dave Cowens is 4th with 2783. Although in Pierce's mind, he's probably never committed a foul.
Pierce will probably move up some other lists at some point in his career. But these are all the milestones that he'll likely reach this upcoming season.
