Did anyone really think the Nets, without Deron Williams (rib) and Kevin Garnett (rest), on the second night of a West Coast road back-to-back would compete with the Clippers, at home on two days rest? Well if you did, you would be dead wrong.
All you need to know about this game is that the Nets were down by 11 after the first quarter, 33 after the second quarter, 41 after the third quarter and 39 after the fourth quarter. Hey, some improvement! Here are some other things that happened:
DeAndre Jordan threw down an enormous dunk over Brook Lopez.
Mirza Teletovic went to a hospital before the second half for shortness of breath.
Blake Griffin has the same sense of humor as all men aged 10-49.
Jarrett Jack posted a -38 rating in 27 minutes.
The Clippers had 41 assists on 49 made field goals. Chris Paul had 17 assists in 24 minutes. They also made 59 percent of their shots (49-83).
The Nets made 56 percent of their free throws (14-25). To sum up, the Clippers made field goals–those contested by an opposing team–at a higher rate than the Nets made free throws–those not contested by anyone. It was one of those nights.
Assorted thoughts: I have none other than that sometimes there are games on a schedule teams just aren’t meant to win. This game was one of those games.
On to the next one: Saturday night in Utah against the Jazz
