Los Angeles Rams Tavon Austin Is The All-Time Least-Efficient WR

Los Angeles Rams WR Tavon Austin must prove himself in the upcoming season, because he is slowly falling of the tracks of his good old college days.

Before the start of the new Los Angeles era, Rams and WR Tavon Austin reach agreement on 4-year, $42 million extension including $30M gtd, per source. Incentives can take deal to $52M.

He’s making money but comes nowhere near the yardage these WR’s are getting. WR’s such as Emmanuel Sanders, Jeremy Maclin, Randall Cobb, Jordy Nelson, Alshon Jeffery. All of those WR’s are either making a million more or less than Austin this upcoming season.  Long story short, Tavon Austin will never be a No. 1 WR.

However he should be used in multiple packages across the Offensive playbook. Because as a WR in the NFL, he’s one of the worst. Among all WRs with >200 targets in their career, Tavon Austin is the all-time least-efficient (yds/tgt) WR since targets became a stat.

Before this season, players have eclipsed the 500 mark for the season 204 times. None of those were by Tavon Austin. He’s not a good wide receiver. For the Los Angeles Rams to use Austin well this season, they have to pull out all the tricks. He’s got speed and agility, but his routes are average and can never get off press.

Could this be a do or die season for Austin? If Austin is going to put another 400-500 yard season, expect that $10 million to go somewhere else next season. In his NFL career, Austin has only managed 4,313 total yards and 23 total touchdowns. Not bad, but for $10 million per year?

You be the judge…
