On Friday April 19th at the Cendera Center in Fort Worth, Texas, Luis “the Latin Legend” (6-0-1) from Dallas,Texas will get his chance for a WBC belt when he takes on Russian Timur Shailezov (16-6-1) for the vacant WBC U.S. Super Flyweight Championship.  It has been hard for the former U.S. Olympian to get opponents to fight him in the flyweight division, but finally he got a big wish.  Saturday at the media day at Maple Avenue Boxing Gym in Dallas, Texas, Yanez was very excited and had fighting words to say to his Russian opponent Shailezov.

Yanez is undefeated but he is not taking his opponent lightly, because Shailezov has won numerous belts, including the NABA Bantamweight Championship, NABA Super-flyweight Championship, and the WBA Intercontinental Super-Flyweight Championship.  When asked how he felt about that, Yanez said “I know he is coming to fight and so am I, I don’t back down from nobody.”  Yanez went on to say that he has fought all over the world as well and that he expects his opponent to bring it and he is going to bring it too.

Yanez has fought southpaws and said that he has been training with Ray Ximenez. Jr. (10-0) from Dallas, Texas, who is a southpaw, and he is not concerned about that.  For this fight he has put in over one hundred rounds of sparring and is mentally and physically ready come Friday night.  In this fight, Yanez plans to stay focused and composed in the ring and just have fun.  He was so excited about the fight, he said “I want the bell to ring now!”  And not looking past his tough Russian opponent, he also had a message for all the other fighters out there, and that is “If you want some, come and get it.!

As for the undercard, expect it to be a fantastic warmup to the main event because after speaking with Yanez, it was apparent that his excitement seemed to have spilled into the other fighters scheduled to fight on the Paulie Ayala Friday Night card.  Fighters were trash talking and making predictions left and right.

It started with junior welterweight fan favorite Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker (7-0-1, 5KO’s) from Dallas, Texas, fighting out of the Maple Avenue Boxing Gym.  He is scheduled for a six round fight against Adam Ealoms (3-2-3, 1KO) from Bryan, Texas.  Hooker, a fighter of few words when talking about his fights, but always direct and to the point, said “I can’t wait to get in the ring, I’m ready.”  He knows that his opponent is an aggressive southpaw but he plans to jab his way in and keep him on the outside.  He went on to say “I’m gonna catch him, and I’m gonna knock him out in the third round!”

The predictions continued with Super middleweight Samuel "The Main Event" Clarkson (7-1, 5KO’s) from Cedar Hill, Texas, who will be taking on Jas Phipps (2-0) from Killeen, Texas in a scheduled six round bout.  Clarkson said he is coming into this fight well prepared after eight weeks of very hard training.  He has been sparring with the likes of Joshua Burns, Chris Jones, Edwin Rodriguez, and WBO / NABO Middleweight champion Brian Vera.  He plans on using his jab on Phipps and said “If he can’t handle that, he won’t be able to handle anything,” and

“I will be knocking him out in the second round!”
