MACH it ’til you rock it… some late Eagles draft thoughts…

Erik_Karlsson_Uncle_Sam

Wanting to avoid overkill on Draft coverage but still open to new angles… that’s the main message here as we near the MACH 10 finish line…

An old Simon and Garfunkel album cover? Nope, it’s Howie Roseman and Andy Reid in a recent presser shot…but just like every songwriting duo in the biz, Howie and Andy are looking for hits this week.

First thought is— the Draft format has changed this year. Sheil Kapadia of philly.com reminded us of that last week, but here is a quick review:

Round 1: The Colts go on the clock with the first pick Thursday night at 8 p.m. Teams have 10 minutes to make their picks.

Rounds 2 & 3: The second round gets started Friday night at 7 p.m. Teams have 7 minutes to make their picks in the second round and 5 minutes in the third.

Rounds 4-7: The fourth round begins Saturday at noon. Teams have 5 minutes to make their picks.

Second thoughts— the “draft experts” are coming on board with their stories of projection and they’re sticking to ’em…

Sports Illustrated’s Peter King projects UNC’s DL-man Quinton Coples to the Birds…
Sporting News’ Russ Lande has the Eagles taking Memphis DT Dontari Poe
National Football Post’s Wes Bunting thinks Mississippi State DT Fletcher Cox will fall to Eagles at #15 pick in round 1; he also has Cal LB Mychal Kendricks going to the Birds at pick #46 and Stanford OT Jonathan Martin at #51.
CBSSports.com’s Rob Rang has the Eagles picking LSU’s DT Michael Brockers in the first round.

Kapadia himself is touting DE Chandler Jones from Syracuse as a Day 2 target-pick for the Eagles, along with LB Kendricks and Georgia CB/return man Brandon Boykin.

He’s also got his eye on late-round and undrafted scenarios. The Eagles have representatives meeting with Houston linebacker Sammy Brown in Texas today, according to Aaron Wilson of Scout.com. Brown (6-2, 243) is expected to be a late-round pick or undrafted free agent. He had 13.5 sacks last season and led the nation with 30 tackles for loss…

I’ll stop here and let the Bored catch us up with more pertinent Draft Weekend preparations and ruminations… I’m done sifting though a phalanx of “experts”, and will now rely upon the expertise of our own Bored membership to guide me through final projections.
