The triple digit Texas heat of early summer was given a run for its money by the heat produced inside the cage of Saturday night’s Xtreme Knockout 7 professional mixed martial arts card which took place at the PCW Arena at The Gym in Arlington.  A large and very vocal throng of fight fans braved the heat and sweltering condition of the un-air condition arena to witness the all-action eight bout card.

In the night’s main event former UFC and Pride veteran Anthony “Mad Dog” Macias (26-14) used his veteran skill and savvy to submit the game Edwynn “Ox” Jones (6-15) in the opening round.  Macias came out aggressive and after Jones caught him in a Thai clinch, managed to take the fight to the ground.  Jones attempted to seize some momentum, clamping in a vicious guillotine choke.  Macias appeared in trouble but managed to escape the choke to slip in a guillotine of his own forcing Jones to tap.  The official time of the submission was 2:07 in the opening round.

In the night’s co-featured fight, Brad Mitchell (1-0) used some exemplary striking skills to stop Chris Pecero (0-1) in the first round.  Both fighters came out firing a dizzying array of punches and kicks at each other which whipped the crowd into frenzy.  The fight came to a climatic end when Mitchell unleashed a hellacious right uppercut that buckled Pecero, dropping him to the mat.  Mitchell wasted no time in pouncing on his downed foe, raining down a flurry of shots that prompted the referee to waive a halt to the fight.  The official time of the stoppage was 1:19 in the first round.

In what was a very entertaining scrap, Quaint Kempf (1-0) gutted out a hard-fought three round unanimous decision over Chris Marquez (0-1).  After an excellent display of striking technique exhibited by both fighters in the opening round, the fight took a more spirited pace in the second and third rounds.  The difference in the fight seemed to be Kempf’s ground fighting acumen which he utilized to great success, tying Marquez up in contorted positions and tenderizing his face with an array of punches and hammer fists.  It was simply too much for Marquez to weather.  Scores were 30-27 on all three judges’ cards in favor of Kempf.
