2.Another 2010 NFL Draft thought. The most impossible question to answer each late April is what rookies will have the biggest impact the following season. Who knew this time last season that Powers, Austin Collie and Pat McAfee would form perhaps the best rookie class of the Bill Polian era last season? That said, here’s an early guess about the three rookies who might have the biggest impact: DE Jerry Hughes, DE Ricardo Mathews and TE Brody Eldridge. This “prediction” has nothing to do with their ability, because I have no way to predict that. But the depth chart indicates all three will get a chance. It may take Hughes a while to get used to the NFL – Dwight Freeney didn’t start in the first half of his 2002 rookie season, remember – but the Colts obviously want him to be a threat at some point next season. And to hear Polian talk on draft weekend, they seem to have a fairly clear role in mind for Mathews. As for Eldridge, he’s obviously not going to carve into Dallas Clark’s playing time, but blocking tight end is the sort of role at which a rookie can have an extensive and productive role quickly.
