The NHL’s Winter Classic is the league’s marquee event and it’s coming to Busch Stadium on January 2nd, 2017. After months of hype and promotion, the team announced that a limited number of seats would go on sale to the general public at 10am on October 18th. The time arrived and immediately a “sold out” message appeared. Were there any tickets available in the first place? Exactly how “limited” was the limited availability?
Blues fans took to social media to air their frustrations.
Guess all 4 available Winter Classic tickets are already sold out. #stlblues

That’s just a small sample of the many, many complaints.
The Winter Classic is a hot ticket and you’d imagine tickets would go fast, but this seems like an extreme case where the quantity of tickets available to the public were far short of what should have been offered. Add in the fact that season ticket holders, corporations and ticket brokers already consumed the vast majority of seats, you have a lot of disappointed fans.
