Marcus Mariota could be drafted at No. 2, by another team

.

As the 2015 NFL Draft approaches, the trade winds are continuing to swirl especially around the second overall pick which is being held by the Tennessee Titans. Many people believe that Jameis Winston will go to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the number one overall pick. But there is some uncertainty surrounding the second pick, despite a few days ago Tennessee Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt saying that if Mariota falls to them, he will be the opening day starter.

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS, an unnamed G.M. told him that Mariota will go second overall but they do not know to which team.

This brings up some interesting scenarios as we have seen Mariota’s name tied to the New York Jets with the sixth overall pick, the Philadelphia Eagles and the San Diego Chargers. Out of all these teams, Mariota being tied to the Chargers is a farfetched pipe dream but it could happen. Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers is in the last year of his deal this season and could be had in a trade. Would the Chargers entertain the possibility of trading Rivers to the Titans and they get Mariota? Maybe, it is not like we have not seen the Chargers let go a quarterback before hence Drew Brees signing with the New Orleans Saints.

Also let’s not forget the Jets but they already have a quarterback in Geno Smith but he has not shown he is a franchise guy yet. Finally, the Eagles who do not need a quarterback but will probably still inquire about Mariota. I highly doubt the Titans will trade the second overall pick because they need a franchise quarterback and Mariota could be their guy.
