Marcus Smart left tonight’s Summer League “playoff” game with an injured right hand after landing awkwardly while diving for a loose ball.
Smart was really writhing and screaming in pain, which lead a lot of us to fear the worst. Luckily it wasn’t as bad as it looked.
Marcus Smart has been diagnosed with dislocations to his right index and middle fingers. He’s undergoing X-rays and will not return tonight.

I can’t tell you how much of a relief that is. This injury will go away in a few weeks, providing the X-rays confirm the diagnosis. Let’s just hope they don’t reveal something more sinister.
As for the question “why was he even in there?”… He’s still learning the game. This is a good chance for him to get reps with the new guys and work on a few things. Let’s not pretend he wouldn’t be playing basketball anyway. Let’s just hope he’s ok.
