Evaluating Marcus Stroman’s most interesting landing spots

MLB: Toronto Blue Jays at New York Yankees

Minnesota Twins

The Twins have been one of baseball’s better surprises this season, but rookie manager Rocco Baldelli‘s club must be feeling a little heat now. They’ve watched their division lead basically get cut in half in not too much time and need to keep the momentum going.

That’s why they’ve not only asked about Stroman, but also about reliever Ken Giles. Jose Berrios and Jake Odorizzi are leading the rotation, but Martin Perez has been a little inconsistent lately, while Michael Pineda may have some stricter inning restrictions on his workload after missing all of 2018.

Stroman’s contract situation also jives with what Minnesota’s front office attempted to do this past winter. Nelson Cruz and Jonathan Schoop were both signed to one-year deals, while they snagged Marwin Gonzalez on a two-year deal. These three examples are all of the offensive variety, but this sure seems like a clear effort to not chain the organization to significant long-term commitments.
