The NBA has officially tipped off voting for this season’s All-Star Game and the Sacramento Kings have three players representing them on this year’s ballot. DeMarcus Cousins was included in the crop of frontcourt players, while Marcus Thornton and Tyreke Evans are among this year’s group of guards in the Western Conference.
All three topped the Kings in scoring last season, with Thornton leading the team overall at 18.7 points per game. This year Cousins currently leads all Kings in scoring at 17.3 points per contest, with Thornton following in second (14.6 PPG) and Evans (11.4 PPG) coming in fourth.
According to the league’s official release, 120 players – 60 from both conferences – are included on the list. Fans are able to select from a group of 36 frontcourt players and 24 guards in both the Eastern and Western Conferences. This differs from years past when the ballot previously featured three positions – forward, center and guard – for fans to choose from. The NBA announced earlier this season that they were eliminating the center position from the All-Star Ballot.
The players on this year’s list were selected by a five-man media panel consisting of Steve Aschburner (NBA.com), Jonathan Feigen (Houston Chronicle), Doug Smith (Toronto Star/PBWA), and Kenny Smith (TNT). The 62nd annual NBA All-Star Game tips off Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013 from the Toyota Center in Houston, TX.
