A panel of sixteen experts from ESPN.com participate in a weekly Heisman Watch, and in their latest one, Marcus Mariota is third, with 36 total points and 4 first-place votes. Oregon running back/slot receiver De’Anthony Thomas is 13th, just behind Sammy Watkins and A.J. McCarron. Tajh Boyd tops the most recent poll. Teddy Bridgewater is second.
The panel votes weekly. It includes studio commentators Rece Davis and Dari Nowkhah, analyst and information man Mark Schlabach, ESPN bloggers Chris Low (SEC), Ted Miller (PAC-12) and others.
Johnny Manziel, last year’s winner, sits fourth. 11 of the last twelve Heisman winners have been quarterbacks, and five of the last six qbs to win have been dual-threat quarterbacks, with pocket passer Sam Bradford the lone exception.
