Sometimes it's not what you know, but who you know and because of that the Badgers basketball team got a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet with the President of the United States of America. The team can thank Chicago native George Marshall, who used some hometown connections, for having the opportunity to meet President Barack Obama before his campaign appearance on Bascom Hill.
They can also thank him as the team got to delay running hills of their own at Elder Park in Madison for the meeting of a lifetime.
According to a report in the Wisconsin State Journal, Obama meet the team in the Education Building and spent about five minutes talking to the team and then posing for pictures.
Consider it a twitter dream come true for Junior Zach Bohannon, who was on a personal mission to get the attention of the President on the social media network. Although he didn't get the pickup game he wanted, the self-described Republican was the first to approach him and made notice of the opportunity of a lifetime.
It's moments like this that make college athletics such a unique experience and especially so because the President is a massive sports fan from the Midwest as well.
As if Marshall wasn't popular enough around campus, you've got to wonder just how much his "cool" factor just raised by pulling a few strings and making an effort.
He pointed out something that I always say: You can't get a Yes if you don't ask in the first place. By him asking these kids and coaches got a memory that won't be erased.
