The woman’s husband, Buffalo Police Sgt. William Crawford, filed a complaint with Hamburg police a day after the incident, but they delayed giving a statement to detectives until Wednesday, in part because she wanted to wait until the Bills’ football season ended and Lynch was out of town.
“She’s terrified of him. He threatened her girlfriend who tried to retrieve the money after he robbed my wife,” Crawford said. “He thinks he’s above the law because of his status as an athlete.”
Crawford said his wife’s girlfriend was approached at the restaurant by another member of the Buffalo Bills, who struck up a conversation with the unmarried woman. At some point, Lynch arrived at the restaurant and joined them.
When the woman’s girlfriend stepped away from the table, Crawford said his wife pulled out a $20 bill to pay their check in preparation for leaving.
Lynch, 23, of Hamburg, then grabbed the money from her hand.
“He takes the $20 out of her hand, and my wife says “What are you doing?’ and Lynch says “Don’t worry.’ When my wife’s girlfriend came back to the table, she told her about it. The girlfriend approached Lynch and said, “Give my friend her money back,’ and Lynch threatened her saying “Do you know who I am? There’s going to be consequences.’

The Bills have to trade Marshawn Lynch. When you have this many odd run-ins with the law, it’s time for the Bills and Lynch to cut their losses. I’m not going to bash Lynch too much and call him a punk like almost everyone else has. All the facts aren’t in. I’m also a little skeptical of the intentions of the couple that’s accusing him. Lynch did return the money days later, which makes the case sound like someone is trying to getting their 15 minutes of fame, rather than achieve justice.
The cynic in me also wonders how ironic is it that the women’s husband is a Buffalo Police officer. You know, he works for the same organization that Lynch hasn’t exactly gotten along with. (Yes, I know, I’m being a jackass by suggesting that it’s the LAPD planting the OJ glove, but what the hell. I’m a blogger, not a journalist)
Also, why couldn’t the guy just arrest Lynch on the spot or call some of his police friends? He’s a cop, you know? And why would the guy send his wife’s girlfriend over to try and get the money back? Again, you’re a cop. That badge and gun is going to entice Lynch to give the money back a hell of a lot quicker than some girl would.
I’m not trying to stick up for Lynch. He’s not exactly Mr. United Way. Lynch made his bed with bringing in a bottle of booze to Soho nightclub, running over some drunk girl on the street, and having an unlicensed gun in a parked car. He’s just never ever going to get the benefit of the doubt while living in Buffalo, which of course is his fault.
But even if Lynch is innocent in this latest issue, it just seems that the city of Buffalo and Marshawn Lynch’s relationship is broke beyond repair. When you have to meet with cops over a year ago in order to work out some sort of truce because you’re getting pulled over all the time, then it’s time to get out of Buffalo.
More importantly, you have Fred Jackson, whose more of a capable back in my opinion.
