Good day to you, Crimson Nation, and welcome to Tuesday.  Here’s hoping you are recovering nicely from partying late into the night last night after WSU’s *huuuuuuuugge 61-41 win over Wyoming! (*Disclaimer:  Apparently Paris Hilton owns “huuuuuuuge”, per YouTube:)

That’s HUUUUUUUUUGGEEEE.  CBI semifinals baby, as the Cougs move on to battle the hated Beaver Nation in Corvallis Wednesday night.  What’s interesting though is that in the other “JV” tourney, Oregon plays UW in the NIT tonight.  As someone tweeted late last night, the state of Oregon vs. the state of Washington – FOUR TEAMS ENTER, ONLY TWO WILL SURVIVE!

Anywho, we’re a football blog so we’ll steer things that direction, mmm-kay?  First, a HUUUUUUUUUGE photo gallery has popped up on Martin Stadium’s ongoing renovations, and well….it’s HUUUUUUUUGGE!  You can see the whole album here, but I went ahead and ripped off some of the fantastic photos for you anyway (that’s just how we roll).

Sand pit on the practice field, aka “Leach Beach”:

I was wondering what that sand pit was actually going to look like, and now we know.  Per Cougfan, the sand pit is supposed to help strengthen ankles and knees and brings a whole new level of conditioning to the players (we hope anyway).  But I guess when you are running four verticals 30+ times a game, or something close to that, you have to be ready to run!  Great work on the updated photos from “LowporkWA” off the Cougfan message boards.

Bill Moos did his Cougar Calls radio show yesterday, which you can listen to here on the iTunes podcast page (the latest show is #1 on the list).  But if you want the cliff notes version through a good, quick read, Howie Stalwick does a great job of highlighting some football-related stuff from the show over at Cougfan, where Moos claims the following:

“I’ve got to hand it to our current players,” Bill Moos said Monday on his weekly radio show. “I’ve never seen in my entire time as a Division I athletic director seen a more focused football team.”

Really?  Even after all those successful Oregon teams where Moos was in the AD chair, this current 2012 WSU unit is the most focused team he’s been around?  That’s great and all, and we obviously hope that translates to big things on the football field.  It also sounds great in the whole “buying in” process that programs go through via a major transition like this one.   So while painful to lose some on-the-field talent, I guess the idea is to get everyone on the same page and moving in the same direction.

Moos also touches on the spring game, where they are now looking for 10, 12, hell, 15 thousand people in Joe Albi on 4/21.  It was fun last year, that’s for sure, but there were maybe 4,000 people in attendance.  I would definitely bet on the number being north of 10K, just out of curiosity to get a sneak peek at this new coach and bringing his vision to WSU.  And the end zone beer garden is back, always a plus!  And yes, we’ll be there with the RV, ready to have a great time with the spring game tailgate!

Finally, off-topic but the Peyton Manning sweepstakes is now history.  And as our good friend “Damone” used to say back in the glory days:

“All you Seahawk fans will be crying when the Broncos are in the Super Bowl…..AGAIN.”

Yesterday had to be a great day for Damone.

So now that Peyton Manning is in the rearview, we get – wait for it – MORE TEBOWMANIA!  That’s right, ESPN and every outlet in between can now begin the “Where will Tebow Go Next?” game.  Fun.

Now to be clear, I actually like Tebow.  I agree that he’s limited as a pure passer, I mean the numbers back that up in every way, shape and form.  But I also believe that the guy can help teams win games if put in the right situation and of course, used to his strengths on a limited basis.  You can’t ask him to drop back 30 times a game and throw it all over the yard, he’s just not a “volume” passer.  But get him to come in off the bench for 10-15 snaps a game, run that option style offense for a change of pace to give defenses a new wrinkle to worry about, and who knows.

We’ll see where he ends up, that will be interesting enough.  But it will also be borderline fascinating to see what his value is around the league.  He’s such a polarizing guy, and the supporters are off the hook about him and his abilities.  But what if the rest of the NFL doesn’t bite, or gives up a second day draft pick for him?  I guess it will just encourage even MORE debate about what he can or cannot do.  But in the end it should be fun to see how it all plays out….?

All for now.  Enjoy your Tuesday, and as always, GO COUGS!
