The New York Post's Larry Brooks broke the news that UFA Matt Gilroy has inked a new contract with the AHL's Connecticut Whale.
Matt Gilroy has signed AHL contract with Whale. Prodigal free agent D presumably will sign with Rangers when lockout ends.

It's a sad day for Senators fans.
Not since Wade Redden left the Senators following the 2006/07 season has the organization had to cope with the loss of losing such a prodigious unrestricted free agent/defensive asset to the Rangers.
Fortunately, it's a long weekend. Somehow, I think I'll be able to cope.
