Matt Ryan deal bad news for Raiders

John Clayton reports on ESPN.com that Falcons QB Matt Ryan of whom the team drafted with the third overall pick has accepted a six-year, $72 million contract that included $34.75 million in guarantees. This is bad news for the Raiders who drafted Darren McFadden just after that pick. It could mean that McFadden’s agent Mike Conley will use these figures to raise the price on his client to numbers that could be similar to what the Raiders gave JaMarcus Russell last year.

The major concern is that it could lead to another hold out. And even if the Raiders sign Dmac before camp, they are not out of the woods because the price tag will put even more strain on the salary cap. Meaning many good players being released simply to get under the cap. And that is never a good situation to be in.

This also means long term deals for guys like Derrick Burgess being put on the back burner yet again. Asomugha has not signed his tender yet either.

The Ryan deal will piss off a lot of teams that will likely have to shell out around 2 million more in salary and guaranteed money to each player because of it.
