Matty Lice
Who has the Ice now?
2011 might become the year we finally see Atlanta Falcon’s QB Matt Ryan for what he is; 3rd best Quarterback in the 4 team division known as the NFC South. Granted as a rookie he took the world by storm. He and Fellow 2008 rookie Joe Flacco were the first QBs since Dan Marino in 1983 to have successful seasons in their freshman years in the pros. His performance under pressure earned him the nickname Matty Ice. Since then his performances have been quite buggy, thus, Matty LICE. So you have to ask yourself at some point, WHAT HAS MATT RYAN DONE? Other than his rookie year first pass for a touchdown, Ryan has not won a playoff game now in two attempts. ICE would suggest coolness in the clutch, but to me that goes to Tampa Bay’s own Josh Freeman if your going to give it out to anyone. In his history so far in the last two minutes of the half, Ryan has a QB rating of only 67.2 with 5 TDs, but also 4 interceptions! Josh Freeman in the same catagory has an 86.9 rating also with 5 TDs, but only 2 Picks! A cool QB’s work is done in the 4th quarter though, everyone knows that. Matt Ryan has an 88.5 rating in the 4th qtr of every game hes played in. But Josh Freeman’s rating is 97.4! Whose the Ice Man in the South? What about when the odds are stacked against you? On 3rd and long, Ryan is a good QB with a 58.7% completions, 7.7 yards per pass, 2 TDs, 2 INTs, and an 88.2 Rating. But Josh is nothing short of Phenomenal! 73.3% completions, 10.5 yards per pass, 3 TDs, NO INTs, and a 123.6 QB Rating! Look, nicknames are nice, they are cool. Sanchize, The Snake, The Gunslinger, but sometimes names are given out too early and they come back to haunt you. Like Man-Genius, or now Matt (Oh-2 in the playoffs) Ryan. Hey, third place isnt that bad right? Sources: Matt Ryan Josh Freeman
