For the third straight season, UConn Huskies senior All-American and Miss Everything Maya Moore has been chosen as the Big East Women’s Preseason Player of the Year. Joining Moore as Big East Women’s Preseason Freshman of the Year is guard Bria Hartley.
And not to be left out, junior guard Tiffany Hayes was named to the Preseason All-Big East team.
Moore is a three-time Wooden All-American, including winning the award in 2009 and is also a three-time WBCA/State Farm All-American. She was part of UConn head coach Geno Auriemma’s World Championship USA squad that brought home the gold this past summer in the FIBA Women’s World Championships. Moore was also the 2010 Big East Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Hartley was a 2010 McDonald’s High School All-American out of North Babylon High School in New York and was also the 2009 and 2010 Gatorade Player of the Year from New York.
Hayes averaged 10.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and three assists for the Huskies who will be seeking their third straight NCAA title. She earned Second Team All-Big East honors for the 2009-10 season.
