STOCKTON, Calif. – Senior forward Maya Moore has been honored as the BIG EAST Player of the Week for her efforts in the top-ranked University of Connecticut women’s basketball team’s victory over No. 22/20 Florida State on Tuesday. Moore earns the honor for the third time this season and the seventh time in her career.
Moore scored a career-high 41 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in the Huskies’ 93-62 victory over FSU on Dec. 21 in front of 16,294 at the XL Center in Hartford. Moore led the Huskies to their NCAA record 89th consecutive victory, surpassing the UCLA men’s previous mark, set from 1971-74.
The Huskies own the NCAA Division record for consecutive victories (89), consecutive home court victories (69) and consecutive regular-season victories (79).
Moore was 15-of-24 from the floor and took care of business from the free throw line, making 10 of her 11 attempts from the charity stripe. The double-double was the 43rd of Moore’s career and the 41 points eclipsed her previous career high of 40. Moore also blocked three shots and dished out three assists without committing a turnover.
Moore and the Huskies are back in action on Tuesday, December 28 when the team takes on Pacific. Game time is set for 10 p.m. EST and the contest will be televised locally on CPTV.
