Mayor Kevin Johnson talks arena on David Aldridge’s Morning Tip

Outside of ESPN’s Kings-focused 5-on-5 roundtable, the relocation/arena efforts haven’t garnered much national attention since the team’s decision to stay in May.  With some help from Turner Sports’ David Aldridge, Mayor Kevin Johnson took some time to update the region’s efforts to build a new entertainment-and-sports complex for NBA.com’s national audience.

This week, our regional task force “Think BIG Sacramento” will release a major report on arena funding sources called the Nexus Report. The work will provide a menu of financial resources to support the new civic center, including private contributions, money from those who will benefit from the building and public support.

The Mayor continued with more explaining of how the financing plan will tackled following Thursday’s unveiling.

In the upcoming months between now and the holidays, our “Think BIG” team will finalize the funding options. And from January to March, we will negotiate agreements with relevant parties as we prepare to break ground and pour concrete in Sacramento’s downtown rail yards redevelopment site.

Again this Thursday, September 8th is the next major date in the arena project.  Think Big Sacramento will release the menu of financing options at the Sacramento Press Club’s monthly luncheon.
