McAfee averaged 43.7 yards per punt during his career at West Virginia, but his punting was limited to a rugby style. He’d get the snap, roll out and kick on the run, an approach that helped the coverage team.
But McAfee worked on conventional punting, too, to prepare for the future. So he hasn’t had trouble adjusting.
“I like it a lot more anyway,” McAfee said of conventional punting. “I’m not a thinker. I just kind of hit the ball. That’s all you’ve got to do.”
