Even though the Eagles lost the game Sunday to the Seahawks, a franchise record was broken. LeSean McCoy entered the game with the Seahawks needing just 48 yards to become the all time leading rusher in Eagles history. He accomplished that feat with a 5 yard run in the 3rd quarter.
‘It means a lot. The guys on the list, to have an opportunity to surpass them and be number one, that says a lot and it means a lot to me,’ said McCoy before the game.’
After a slow start this season McCoy has picked things up as of late. Two weeks ago against the Titans, McCoy ran for 130 yards and a touchdown. He was even better on Thanksgiving running for 159 yards in the Eagles big victory over the Cowboys. He has rushed for 1,068 yards this season, marking the 4th season in his career that he has rushed for more then 1,000 yards.
McCoy’s career best day was during the ‘Snow Bowl’ last year when he ran for 217 yards against the Lions. He also scored two touchdowns in the game.
‘I didn’t imagine when I got drafted here that I’d potentially have a chance to hold the rushing record as an Eagle. That’s something big,’ said McCoy. ‘That’s something I’m looking forward to. The main goal is just to win the game, obviously. But in the way of doing that, I’d love to accomplish that.’
Wilbert Montgomery held the franchise rushing record since 1984.
’He’s the closest thing to one of my idols in Gale Sayers that you’re probably going to see on the football field,’ said Montgomery this week on the radio. ‘Gale Sayers had that elusive run style. He put his foot in the ground to make the cut and run against the grain and all of that. He’s one of those guys who if you can remember a phone booth, can make 11 people miss in a phone booth. That’s the same thing you can say about Shady. He’s just an unbelievable talent. He’s been blessed with a skill set that no one else has in the league right now.’
