The Reds were good in 1995, but early in the season they were underperforming. After one disturbing lacklaster loss, the clubhouse doors were locked, the media held out.
But the thick doors couldn’t hold Larkin’s voice. He was screaming at his teammates, long and loud.
“I read them the riot act,” Larkin said. “We were too good to be playing and acting they way we were.”
The Reds then won 10 straight and were on their way to the pennant, the last one they won until last season.
