Several routes are available as to the primary Los Angeles Rams draft pick in 2017 with their needs extending into several areas.
No one knows that better than ESPN analysts Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay.
Recently, ESPN had both their draft gurus talking about what the Rams should do with their first pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, and they threw out different names for L.A. and its No. 37 overall pick.
Immediately, the indication was that Kiper and McShay disagreed about whom the Rams draft pick should be. Both The Rams Wire and turfshowtimes.com noted the discrepancy. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that Kiper and McShay differ on the Rams draft pick path.
In the ESPN audio, Kiper mentioned Utah offensive tackle Garrett Bolles as the Rams draft pick target in the second round. McShay said Los Angeles ALSO needed help at cornerback and wide receiver. He was merely pointing out that the Rams have multiple paths that they could follow.
In the ESPN.com two-round mock draft, Kiper wrote Bolles as the Rams draft pick at No. 37, while McShay listed Alabama cornerback Marlon Humphrey. However, McShay had Bolles going to the Denver Broncos in the first round with the No. 20 overall pick. He doesn’t think Bolles will be available by the time Los Angeles steps up to the draft.
It would seem logical that if Bolles were available 17 spots lower than McShay believes he’ll go that McShay would commend the Rams for plucking the Ute lineman. And if Bolles goes earlier than Kiper expects, then it is uncertain whether he believes the Rams should look for a cornerback, wide receiver or other offensive lineman.
McShay and Kiper agreed on eight draft prospect destinations, but if they agreed on any more, why would ESPN feel the need to have two draft analysts on its payroll?
