Memo to Tigers Fans: Woo Sahh

Tough loss, Tigers fans.  We had them in our grasp and we let it slip away.  We could look back and say this game is ‘the one that got away,” but that would be too melodramatic.  A couple wild pitches, a bunch of runners left on, a wasted stellar performance from this year’s Rookie of the Year, and unluckiness all worked against Detroit’s favor. All too familiar to rehash in detail.

With that being said, I’m absolutely amazed at how negative the Tigers’ fan base has been. Yeah, Detroit’s blown a division before (3 years ago) and they aren’t playing great September baseball (for the 6th year in the past 7), but this team still leads the division (and has since May)!

Yeah, overly optimistic can be somewhat annoying, but constantly negative and always expecting the worst is downright frustrating.  It shaves years off your life and it doesn’t make the glory feel any better.  In fact, it’s more a sigh of relief as opposed to jubilation.  Meanwhile, when you’re composed and somewhat optimistic about the team that has been in first nearly ALL SEASON, it’ll make it that much better when they do clinch (if they do).  The pain will be the same if they don’t, so it doesn’t hurt to settle the fuck down, take a deep breath, get over yourself whoever you think you are, and say “Woo sahh.”  Rather than being a nervous wreck and sweating like you’re Charlie Weis and you just finished getting out of bed, try to add a little excitement in there.  Tigers aren’t in this position often, so it’d be a damn shame if you ruined the moment by bitching the entire time.

Game 2 of the double dip tonight.  Tigers have a game lead in the Central.  If they lose, we’re tied with two games left against the Twins.  I wouldn’t say this is MUST win, but it’s definitely the new, biggest game of the season, by far.

GO TIGERS!
