Memphis Tigers Continue To Add Weapons On Offense

The Memphis Tigers added two more offensive weapons this past week – bolstering what already expects to be a high powered offense.

Late Monday evening, the news broke that three-star running back Darrell Henderson of regional powerhouse South Panola High School (MS) had committed to the Tigers.

Then more news broke on Tuesday morning that four-star running back Jae’lon Oglesby – a former Clemson signee – had enrolled at Memphis and been academically cleared to play.

Olglesby rushed for more than 2,100 yards and 21 touchdowns on 9.8 yards per carry his senior season. The 6-foot 175-pound back was unable to get cleared by the NCAA after signing with Clemson back in 2014, forcing him to play this past season at a prep school.

Despite being considered a running back coming out of high school, it was reported by Bryan Moss of Rivals that Oglesby will play wide receiver at Memphis.

It is still a unknown whether Dodson will be granted a waiver to play immediately or if he’ll have to sit out a season. But regardless, the Tigers are going to be loaded at the skill positions. If you couple Oglesby, Henderson and Dodson with Sam Craft, Doroland Dorceus, Jarvis Cooper, Phil Mayhue, Alan Cross, Roderick Proctor, Tevin Jones, and Mose Frazier, Paxton Lynch is going to have lots of weapons to spread the ball around to in 2015.

Something To Keep An Eye On

There have been rumors circulating this week surrounding the Athletic Director vacancy at Cal-Berkley. Reportedly, there are four finalists for the job: Mike Williams, Kevin Anderson, Todd Stansbury and current Memphis AD Tom Bowen.

Bowen was brought to Memphis with the idea that he would fix the football program, and he has done just that. Bowen hired Justin Fuente, and together the two are credited with the revival of Memphis football.

Bowen is the former San Diego State AD, and he worked at Cal as a fundraiser back in the early 2000s. So there are some California ties with Bowen.

While this is no reason for Memphis fans to feel like they’re on the cusp of losing their AD, it is certainly worth monitoring the situation at Cal.
