Everyone on the Gulf Coast has to be rooting for the Carolina Hurricanes this year. Why? The two times the ‘Canes have made it to the Stanley Cup finals, the Atlantic hurricane season has been less active. When they lost to the Red Wings in 2002, only one hurricane made landfall in the US, unfortunate for central Louisiana, where Lili caused quite a bit of damage and killed one person in the US, but better than several seasons this past decade. Only 12 storms formed and only 4 of them became hurricanes.
In 2006, when the Hurricanes won it all, there wasn’t a single hurricane to make landfall in the US. Only 10 storms formed overall in 2006, making it one of the most docile years in a while. Apparently, headlines are only big enough for the word “hurricane” so many times in a year, so hopefully for Dave and residents along the coast, Carolina can seal the deal.
Now, the forecast. What’s this in the Gulf of Mexico? Is it a hurricane? Well, no, but it sure wants to be. Carolina vs. Mother Nature, and neither is going down without a fight.
