In a shocking move, multiple sources have confirmed to Cowbell Kingdom that the Sacramento Kings fired head coach Michael Malone Sunday evening.

Malone lasted all of 106 games under the new Sacramento regime of Vivek Ranadivé, Chris Mullin and Pete D’Alessandro, finishing with a 39-67 record.

After getting off to a surprising 9-6 record, the Kings lost seven of their last nine games with center DeMarcus Cousins out with viral meningitis.  Sacramento is on a three-game losing streak, with the latest loss coming on Saturday night against the now 5-19 Detroit Pistons.

According to Yahoo! Sports, who was first with the Malone news, Tyrone Corbin will take over head coaching duties on an interim basis, but he shouldn’t get too comfortable.  The former frontman of the Utah Jazz is currently working himself back after tearing his Achilles tendon earlier this month and it was Malone who insisted on his hiring this summer.

Malone was extremely popular in the locker room and with the media.  His presence will be missed.

We will have more as this story develops over the next 24 hours.
