Michael Malone provides brief update on assistant coaching search

Aside from the draft, Michael Malone still has the task of filling out his coaching staff.  So far, the Kings new head coach has made just one official hire in Chris Jent, who joined the franchise last week after spending the last two seasons as an assistant at Ohio State.

Following yesterday’s pre-draft workouts, Malone did note that his father will finally be coming to work soon.  The 42-year-old head coach told reporters Wednesday that Brendan Malone, a 25-year NBA coaching veteran, would be starting his new job in Sacramento next week.

“Hopefully within the next week we should have a couple more additions,” the Kings head coach said.

Former Detroit Pistons assistant Roy Rogers was in Sacramento 11 days ago to discuss the opportunity of joining Malone’s staff.  He was set to work for Jeff Hornacek in Phoenix, but contract talks stalled and the Suns withdrew their offer.  Since the opportunity in Phoenix fell apart, Rogers has interviewed with Brooklyn Nets head coach Jason Kidd for a position on his staff.
