Wisconsin may have finished with a grand total of three wins in conference play, but that doesn't mean the Badgers were without a few star players along the way. Chief among them was junior transfer Michala Johnson, who on Monday was named 1st team All-Big Ten by the conference coaches.
Johnson averaged a team-high 16.5 points per game, which was also good for 5th in the conference. Her 55.2 percent field goal shooting was tops on the team and 2nd in the B1G to only Bethany Doolittle's 55.7 percent shooting. She also averaged 7.2 rebounds a game, 11th in the conference and 2nd best on the Badgers. Finally, her 69 offensive rebounds were tops on the team and 5th in the conference this season.
The star forward transferred in to Wisconsin from UConn and clearly made a quick impression on the UW program. However, she wasn't the only one to receive honors for the Badgers. Senior forward Taylor Wurtz ended her Badger career by being named to the Honorable Mention All-Big Ten team.
Wurtz finished 2nd on the Badgers in scoring, averaging 12.8 points per game, while topping the team in rebounding at 8.3 rebounds per game. That average put her 5th in the conference, just ahead of Nebraska's Nia Coffey with 8.1 rebounds per game.
The Badgers will be the nightcap on the Big Ten Women's tourney opening day this Thursday. The No. 11 seeded Badgers take on No. 6 seed and rival Minnesota, with tip scheduled for approximately 8pm CT (25 minutes following conclusion of the 5:30pm CT tip before this game). It airs on the Big Ten Network.
