In a developing story, Jim Harbaugh would be handsomely rewarded if he decides to take the job vacancy in Ann Arbor.

Michigan has offered the San Francisco 49ers head coach the largest coaching contract in NCAA history. According to multiple reports the University has offered Harbaugh a six-year deal.

The contract would pay him $48 million dollars, an average of $8.1 million a year. The deal would surpass the salary of Alabama coach Nick Sabban. The offer comes at a time where the former Michigan quarterback is on the fence when it comes to his future with the 49ers.

Harbaugh is reported to be considering the offer from current AD and former Michigan coach Bo Schembechler, according to CBS-5 in San Francisco.

The offer comes after what has been a disappointing season for both Michigan and the 49ers. Michigan is searching for a replacement to former coach Brady Hoke, who was fired after the Wolverines loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Hoke was 5-7 in his final season and 31-20 overall. Michigan went to finish 20-18 in Hoke’s final three seasons.

The 49ers are two weeks away from finishing a very disappointing season where the team was eliminated from playoff contention. The team is on a three-game losing streak including a loss to the lowly Oakland Raiders. The Niners were eliminated Sunday with their second loss of the season to the Seattle Seahawks.

With the NFL season coming to an end, and multiple predictions of Harbaugh’s termination, Michigan has made its move. Harbaugh has been known for turning around teams in the past. He turned Stanford into a national powerhouse while taking them one of the program’s greatest seasons.

In San Francisco he has taken the 49ers to a Super Bowl and two NFC Championship games. Michigan has offered college footballs richest offer to see if he can do the same for Michigan.

If accepted, the Big Ten Conference will be put on notice. And it could be a real game changer for the Wolverines and their rich history.
