Mick Cronin leaving Cincinnati for another program?

Mick Cronin has been the coach of the Cincinnati Bearcats men’s basketball program for the past decade, but ESPN insider Jeff Goodman reports that the two could be splitting up this offseason.

Per Goodman, Cronin is in serious talks with UNLV after he flew out to visit Las Vegas on Wednesday and that both are in “heading in the direction of a marriage.”

Since the start of the 2006-07 season when Cronin took over for Andy Kennedy, Cincinnati has posted a 203-127 (.615 winning percentage) record with six straight NCAA tournament appearances and one co-conference regular season championship (2013-14).

In 2015-16, Cincinnati went 22-11 (12-6 American) and lost to St. Joseph’s in the NCAA tournament’s Round of 64.

UNLV fired coach Dave Rice in January after the Rebels got off to a 9-7 start. They would end up finishing 18-15 (8-10 MWC), marking the second consecutive season with less than 20 total wins.

Cronin received a bachelor of science degree in history from the University of Cincinnati in 1996.
