I am getting a little tired of all the Coyotes fans believing the sky is falling because we've lost a few games. A friend asked a question on twitter about where were we two years ago about this time? I decided to see what I could find and let him know the answer. Granted, this season is a little bit different with the realignment and our division/conference has much more competition than the east but it is a good reminder that we aren't out of the playoffs just yet.
I found the best reference here:
The Coyotes sit in 11th place in the Western Conference with 46 points and a 20-17-6 record, just three points out of the final playoff spot and five points out of third place. In such a tight playoff race every game will have major implications.
And here is where we are now:
Record: 21-13-9
Points: 51 points
Place: 9th
Wow, we have one more win, 5 more points and are two spots higher. We really need to start winning in regulation. We really need to start winning against the teams in our conference/division. The east points are nice but we have to beat teams like the Kings and Ducks etc.
The Coyotes finished the 2011-2012 season with 97 points and 3rd place (1st in Western Conference). I do know we will need more than 97 points this season to make the playoffs but the playoffs are still well within our reach. Let's not panic yet people.
Besides sitting Smith and removing Yandle from the D, what would you do to help the Coyotes reach the playoffs? Do we add another Dman? Klesla is most likely gone after this season and we could really use another stay at home, blocks shots with his face dman. Which dman would you like to see on our blue line? Do we add more forwards? It is hard to win when you aren't scoring consistently. Which forward would you like added?
