Mike Lowell spoke to Rob Bradford of WEEI.com for his first full interview since the failed trade with Texas. He is dealing with the situation like a professional and continues to be a classy guy. When asked about the possibility of playing on opening day he responded with:
“Oh, yeah. I think there’s a way,” Lowell said. “What I want and what will happen, I don’t know that’s something that’s attainable. But anything can happen. Guys get hurt all the time. But I don’t really want my playing time based upon whether someone gets hurt. I’m not saying, ‘Hey, man — I hope this guy gets hurt so I can get my at-bats.’ That’s not really the way I want to go. I’m just happy that I’m healthier than I was going into last year.”
The Red Sox will have to give Lowell some AB’s and time in the field this spring to show that he is healthy if they want to trade him. There may not be much of a market for him at the start of the season but he could hold some value for a team that has an injury mid season at first or third.
