The 2014 version of the New York Yankees-Boston Red Sox feud isn’t as heated as in years past, but, still…this can’t end well, right?
After hitting a game-winning home run off Masahiro Tanaka Saturday night, Red Sox first baseman Mike Napoli returned to the dugout and let his thoughts be known.
“What an idiot,” the bearded slugger was heard to say (repeatedly) during the FOX broadcast.
[mlbvideo id=”34130811″ width=”400″ height=”224″ /]Sure, Napoli, who had struck out in his previous two at bats, pretty much told his teammates what everyone watching the game as thinking, but, c’mon…is that really how you want to celebrate after hitting a would-be game winner?
“Nothing toward him,” Napoli said immediately after the game. “I thought he was going to throw me a split in the dirt. He had been getting me out all night on it.”
I’m pretty sure you can expect Yankees pitcher Chase Whitley to remind Napoli that it isn’t wise to call a man who throws 90-plus an “idiot” when the teams square off Sunday.
