The Red Sox came into the 2nd game of the series in the Bronx with Felix Doubront on the mound vs. Andy Pettitte. Doubront struggled and wasn't able to make it out of the 4th inning, but the Sox bats rallied in the late innings to have another dramatic win over the Yankees.
The Red Sox went behind almost immediately when Doubront gave up a 2 run HR to Soriano in the 1st inning. Felix didn't look crisp and was either getting behind in the count or walking most batters he faced. The Sox got one of those runs back in the 2nd inning when Ross hit an RBI single to score Napoli. The Yankees added two more runs in the bottom of the inning when Nunez hit an RBI triple and then Stewart hit an RBI sac fly. In the 4th inning the Sox got their 2nd run of the game when Stephen Drew hit an RBI grounder to score Napoli. Sox 2-4. Unfortunately, Doubront found more truoble in the bottom of the inning when he gave up a 2 run RBI triple to Gardner. Sox 2-6. Doubront was done for the night and Rubby De La Rosa came in to finish the inning. Doubront's pitching line for the night was 88 pitches, 3.2 IP, 3 H, 6 R, 6 BB and 2 Ks. It's obvious by looking at his pitching line that the walks were the problem in last night's outing.
In the 5th Will Middlebrooks hit a leadoff HR. It doesn't seem like a game these days if Middlebrooks is not hitting a homerun. Rubby De La Rosa pitched the 5th and found himself in some trouble. He gave up an RBI single to Wells and then an RBI single to Reynolds. Yanks were now leading 8-3 and looked in line for an easy win. De La Rosa pitched a scoreless 6th and then the Sox bats got to work in the 7th. Phil Hughes, who was just recently taken out of the rotation and sent to the bullpen, was in the game. Hughes ended up with the bases loaded and gave up an RBI infield single to Pedroia. Sox 4-8. Hughes was done and Boone Logan was in the game. Logan got Papi to strike out and Mike Napoli came to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs. Napoli did his job and then some hitting a grand slam to tie the game. Sox 8-8. Logan left the game due to injury, but the damage had clearly already been done.
Brandon Workman came into the game and pitched a scoreless 7th after the Sox did all that damage. In the 8th the Sox took the lead when Victorino hit a 2 run HR off of Claiborne. The Sox then took advantage of Joba Chamberlain when he came into the game and ended up intentionally walking Papi and the unintentionally walking Napoli to load the bases. Joba then walked Nava to give the Sox another run in the inning. Stephen Drew hit an RBI single to have the Sox leading 12-8. Workman took the mound in the 8th and then handed the ball over to Morales to finish off the inning. In the 9th even though it is not a save situation, Koji Uehara took the mound and of course had a simple, easy 1-2-3 inning.
