Mike Piazza to Join Miami City Ballet

Over the course of his 16-year big league career, Mike Piazza accomplished just about everything a player on every stage imaginable.  Now you can add "ballet" to the list.

The catching great will have a small role in a performance of “Slaughter on Tenth Avenue” at the Miami City Ballet.  For one night only, May 3, Piazza will be playing the role of “The Gangster”.

“He won’t be dancing or catching any flying ballerinas, but he will be part of the action,” said Roberto Santiago, a spokesman for the ballet company, told the New York Daily News.

And why is he doing it?  The former backstop has two reasons.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun seeing the reaction of my two little girls,” Piazza said in a statement. “For (Nicoletta) to have the opportunity to see Daddy on stage is my little gift. I’m looking forward to it."

In case you were wondering, no…this won't be the 44-year-old's acting debut.  In addition to a couple of TV and movie appearances, Piazza has been in numerous commercials.  Something tells me playing a bulk of your Hall of Fame-caliber career in Los Angeles and New York can help make that happen.
