“The Angels organization can’t handle both of them at odds, so I made the logical decision to have them square off in the Thunderdome,” said Moreno.
“The premise is simple, two men enter, one man leaves, and runs the team.” he added.
When asked if the matter would have been settled much easier, and less violently if he had just fired Scioscia or Dipoto, Moreno was adamant about his decision:
“Thunderdome has more finality to it, think about it, would you question the authority of someone who survived a death-match?” said Moreno.
The Red Onion asked Mike Scioscia’s thoughts about his match-up with Dipoto:
“If we end up losing in Thunderdome, we’ll tip the cap, and turn the page.”
A statement about the match was issued by Jerry Dipoto earlier today:
“Mike Scioscia is a worthy opponent, I look forward to meeting him in Thunderdome.’
he added “May the best manager win.”
Officials in Bartertown are currently preparing Thunderdome for the match. Officials say it will take a week to recover from the September 21st death-match between Bobby Valentine and Dustin Pedroia.
Scioscia/Dipoto “The Rumble in the Dome” will take place on September 30th at 7pm. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at Ticketmaster, Stub-Hub, or at the Thunderdome box office the day of the event. Parking is $5.
