At 1 p.m. today, WFAN’s Mike Francesa came on the air, opening his show with a tape of his former partner, Chris Russo saying his usual “Good afternoooooon, everybody!” then went into a monologue explaining why the Mike & the Mad Dog show was ending after 19 years. Then Russo came on the show on the phone and got emotional as he said goodbye.
Newsday’s Andy Levenberg transcribes what happened in the first two segments of the show.
You can listen to Francesa opening the show here.
Neil Best says WFAN and YES will re-air the beginning of the show tonight at 6.
