Assistant general manager Julien BriseBois said if Mikkelson clears waivers at noon on Monday, he will be assigned to the Syracuse Crunch.
The move may make room for the Crunch’s Radko Gudas or Mark Barberio to be called up.
Mikkelson spent seven games with Syracuse on a conditioning assignment and tallied one assist.
He has played in 131 NHL games accumulating one goal and nine assists.
