Former Boston Bruins and Los Angeles Kings forward Milan Lucic has signed a seven-year, $42 million contract with the Edmonton Oilers. The move reunites Lucic with former general manager Peter Chiarelli, who was the GM of the Bruins and who drafted Lucic in the 2006 NHL Draft.

Lucic registered 55 points in 81 games with the Los Angeles Kings this past season. Lucic was acquired during the 2015 NHL Draft from the Boston Bruins in exchange for goalie Martin Jones (who later led the Sharks to the Stanley Cup Final), a first round pick (Jakub Zboril) and defenseman Collin Miller. Lucic has 397 points in 647 NHL regular season games played.
With the Oilers trading former number one overall selection Taylor Hall to the New Jersey Devils, there was a gaping need for a talented winger. Lucic will add a physical presence and leadership to a very young Oilers locker room. Lucic will also be reunited with Andrew Ference, his former teammate in Boston during their 2011 Stanley Cup championship run.
This is the second straight year, the Oilers have signed a Kings player to a long-term deal. Last year, the team added Andrej Sekera to their defense after he was a deadline acquisition of the Kings.
