Ross: Bowling Green was one of a crop of good MAC teams in that tier below Northern Illinois and Kent State; they went 6-2 in the league and lost only to Kent State and Toledo. They also gave Florida a tight game in the season opener (a 27-14 Florida win). Most of their success came via the defense, which gave up just 15.8 ppg (9th in the nation) and held six opponents to 10 points or less.  That’s pretty nasty.  San Jose State has a pretty solid defense of their own (21.4 ppg, 25th in the nation), but they also have a pretty potent offense — 35.3 ppg (26th in the nation) and six games of 40+ points, including a pair of games with 50+ points.  Something will have to give here; I think David Fales and the San Jose State passing game are able to poke some holes in Bowling Green’s defense.

Kevin: As I’m sitting down to type this up, the MAC is 0-2 in bowl games and the WAC is 1-0. In the only MAC/WAC match-up so far this bowl season, the Aggies of Utah State waxed the floor with Toledo. Bowling Green had a great year at 8-4 but outside of the win against Ohio (who lost four of their last five) they really didn’t beat anybody. On the other hand, SJSU does have some nice victories against SDSU, BYU and Louisiana Tech and they even shut out Navy. I like the Aztecs in this one.
